Gently tilting and rotating the drum moves the internal metal beads across the natural goatskin membrane, recreating the rise and fall of ocean waves. Slow movements produce soft, calming swells, while quicker changes in angle create fuller cascades and more dramatic rhythmic textures.

Ocean drums are frame instruments designed to imitate the natural movement of water. As the drum is tilted, the loose beads roll across the membrane and create shifting textures that can resemble gentle shoreline sounds, breaking waves or heavier ocean swells.
The large playing surface makes this version particularly effective within spacious rooms and group sessions. As natural and hand-finished materials are used, variations in wood grain, membrane colour and surface texture form part of the individual character of each drum.
